ABOUT ME

 

I have a degree in graphic design but I have always had a love for art, calligraphy, greeting cards and stationery so I decided to pursue my passion and create items for others to enjoy. Although I am fully proficient in digital design programmes I have always found illustrating on screen difficult and I could never achieve the aesthetic that I wanted. At the beginning of 2023 I discovered gouache and it changed my art entirely.

 

I love drawing with pencil on paper and spending hours mixing the perfect colour to paint with. It’s a therapeutic process (and a long one) but the sense of achievement I feel when I finish a painting is like no other. Paintings can take me between 5 and 20 hours depending on the complexity of the design. I then scan, clean up in Affinity Photo and add the text.

 

Most of the text on my designs is hand lettered. Hand lettering is something I have always done. I can remember making bubble writing at primary school and spending far too much time creating typographic title pages in my sketchbook at college. Calligraphy was something that I started a bit later down the road but it’s my favourite style by far.

 

My designs are inspired by the things that I love (mostly flowers, tea, cats and cake) but they are also created to fulfil a purpose and create an emotional response. This is why my designs have started out as greeting cards. I have always loved sending and receiving cards and particularly getting them in the post fills me with love and appreciation. It’s a tradition I hope will live on in this digital age!
